On 23 October 2025, the National Anti-Wildlife Crime Coordination Task Force convened a stakeholder engagement at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima to confront the forest and wildlife crimes eating into Uganda’s Bunyoro sub-region. Supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the meeting brought together partners from the National Forestry Authority (NFA), the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the Judiciary and Local Governments to forge a common line of action.
The message from the region’s leadership was one of unity. Maj. Gen. M. Rwakitarate, the RCC for Hoima Mr. Badru Mugabi, and the RDC for Kikuube Mr. Angalia Godwin called for vigilance and collaboration to restore Uganda’s forest cover and protect the country’s natural resources. Their appeal underlined a simple truth that runs through all of the Task Force’s work: forests and wildlife are protected not by one agency, but by many acting together.
Bringing enforcement agencies, the Judiciary and Local Governments into the same room matters because a case that begins with a forest ranger must survive all the way to a courtroom. Engagements like the one in Bunyoro build the relationships and shared understanding that let information move quickly from the field to those able to act on it.
