Coordination Task Force

Capacity Building

A coordinated force is only as strong as the officers within it. The Task Force therefore invests continuously in the skills, tools and networks of its member institutions.

Nine regional awareness workshops have been conducted across the country — in the Kasese, Elgon, Karamoja, Gulu and Bunyoro regions — bringing wildlife crime training to the front lines where it is needed most. Dedicated engagements have also reached the border posts of Malaba, Busia, Rwakhaka and Mpondwe, hardening the crossing points most exploited by traffickers.

On 13 February 2023, the Task Force delivered DISRUPT training in Fort Portal, equipping officers from multiple agencies with practical techniques for detecting and disrupting wildlife trafficking in transit — from concealment methods to controlled-delivery procedures.

A capacity needs assessment across member institutions has mapped the gaps that remain — in forensics, digital investigation, canine detection and inter-agency case management — and now guides the Task Force's training plans and partner support requests.

These investments are supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society and UNODC, with funding from the European Union and the Government of Denmark.
