In August 2023, a joint team arrested a serving traffic police officer found in possession of 34 kilograms of elephant ivory. The arrest of a law-enforcement officer underscored an uncomfortable reality of wildlife crime: trafficking networks actively recruit insiders to move product past checkpoints.

The Task Force treated the case as a test of its resolve to enforce the law without fear or favour. The suspect was charged under the Uganda Wildlife Act, 2019, and the matter is pending before court.

Member institutions have used the case to tighten integrity safeguards, including vetting and intelligence sharing on insider facilitation of wildlife crime.

Seizures 34 kg of elephant ivory.
