Through 2025 the Task Force spearheaded joint enforcement and advocacy for Bugoma Central Forest Reserve, culminating in multi-stakeholder resolutions to halt encroachment and illegal conversion.
Bugoma Central Forest Reserve, a critical chimpanzee habitat and biodiversity corridor in the Bunyoro landscape, has faced sustained pressure from encroachment, illegal logging and conversion. In 2025 the Task Force made Bugoma a flagship campaign, pairing joint enforcement patrols with high-level advocacy.
Operations recovered illegal timber and destroyed charcoal kilns inside the reserve, while a multi-stakeholder engagement convened by the Task Force in June 2025 produced concrete resolutions: intensified patrols, prosecution of encroachers, and proposals to bring additional institutions, including the Attorney General's Chambers, the Ministry of Lands and the Judiciary, into the Task Force.
The campaign shows the Task Force applying its coordination model beyond wildlife trafficking to the defence of Uganda's forest estate itself.
