Through 2025 the Task Force spearheaded joint enforcement and advocacy for Bugoma Central Forest Reserve, culminating in multi-stakeholder resolutions to halt encroachment and illegal conversion.
Bugoma Central Forest Reserve — a critical chimpanzee habitat and biodiversity corridor in the Bunyoro landscape — has faced sustained pressure from encroachment, illegal logging and conversion. In 2025 the Task Force made Bugoma a flagship campaign, pairing joint enforcement patrols with high-level advocacy.
Operations recovered illegal timber and destroyed charcoal kilns inside the reserve, while a multi-stakeholder engagement convened by the Task Force in June 2025 produced concrete resolutions: intensified patrols, prosecution of encroachers, and proposals to bring additional institutions — including the Attorney General's Chambers, the Ministry of Lands and the Judiciary — into the Task Force.
The campaign shows the Task Force applying its coordination model beyond wildlife trafficking to the defence of Uganda's forest estate itself.
